One might consider this new book as the 4th edition of "Powder Surface Area and Porosity" (Lowell & Shields), but for this new edition we set out to incorporate recent developments in the understanding of fluids in many types of porous materials, not just powders. Based on this, we felt that it would be prudent to change the title to "Characterization of Porous Solids and Powders: Surface Area, Porosity and Density". This book gives a unique overview of principles associated with the characterization of solids with regard to their surface area, pore size, pore volume and density. It covers methods based on gas adsorption (both physi and chemisorption), mercury porosimetry and pycnometry. Not only are the theoretical and experimental basics of these techniques presented in detail but also, in light of the tremendous progress made in recent years in materials science and nanotechnology, the most recent developments are described. In particular, the application of classical theories and methods for pore size analysis are contrasted with the most advanced microscopic theories based on statistical mechanics (e.g. Density Functional Theory and Molecular Simulation). The characterization of heterogeneous catalysts is more prominent than in earlier editions; the sections on mercury porosimetry and particularly chemisorption have been updated and greatly expanded.

An updated version of the classical textbook (Powder Surface Area and Porosity, 3rd ed., 1991) by the first two authors "the book now includes recent developments in the areas of density functional theory, molecular simulations, pore network theories, and it has an expanded section on heterogeneous catalysts….. An interesting aspect is the book’s clear division between theoretical aspects (Part 1) and experimental aspects (Part 2) of the various techniques….. The book also demonstrates a good balance between how deep a theoretical concept is being discussed and how many real-world examples are presented.

Summing up: Recommended. Lower-division undergraduates through professionals; two-year technical program students."

I bought this book to quickly get an overview over the BET method and theory, pore size determination and adsorption isotherms. And the book delivered exactly that. It does not go into much detail but is thorough nevertheless. For every chapter there are many references that help to dig deeper into a particular subject. So this is an ideal entry point if you are (like me) new to the subject matter.

Guides you to many resources

This book is almost like a directory of websites for different resources we'll all need as we age. As with all Dummies books, it briefly explains things like Medicare, Assisted Living, Long Term Care Insurance, etc., but it gives you lists of websites to go to for more information. I like this because I want to know which sites are reputable and not something that will give me bad information. For this alone, I find this book very helpful. The book is only 341 pages and it covers just about every area of aging from staying in your own home to tables of the cost of assisted living facilities, transportation alternatives (which I really found helpful) and basic health information for aging people. There is a small section on finances and estate planning, but not that much - it's mostly on how to live as an elder, not a financial guide. The amount of information covered in the book is everything I've thought of, plus several things I didn't even know about. I would highly recommend this book to have on hand to give you a start on where to look when you need help. It's easy enough for an elder to read or for someone who is caring for an elder - just make sure if you are an elder yourself, you are comfortable with the computer because you will be looking at a lot of websites. But, with AARP behind the book, I feel confident that they are sending us to the right places online to look and that's very important.

Broad General Overview with Useful Pointers

This book covers a long list of topics including modifying your home to prevent falls, health care proxy documents and wills, i.e it is not just about finding a skilled nursing facility. It is targeted to readers who have very little knowledge and have not already done much investigation. It provides useful references to other sources of information and that in itself makes it a useful book to have on your shelf. (But I suspect that this information like most of the other information is easily accessible if you do an internet search.) I would have appreciated having more specific information on what various services and living arrangements cost in various states, but this level of information is not provided. I have to say that the only thing I actually learned from the book were a few little tidbits (Did you know that an overweight or paralyzed person requires a two person transfer -- more costly -- rather than a one person transfer?). Stuff like that. If a reader comes to this book having given absolutely no prior thought to the topic of long term care and general preparation for aging, he/she will find it a very good introduction. But if you are at the point where you are looking for specific answers to questions about finding caregivers, the cost of services, you should go straight to the internet. Received this through the Amazon Vine Program.

This well-written and comprehensive guide to long-term care planning will help you navigate the many aspects involved in helping yourself or an aging loved one gather information regarding such things as programs, services, facilities, and organizations focused on aiding the elderly. While the book itself can mostly deal with generalities only, almost every chapter provides pointers to online resources where more specific information can be found; the more important of these online resources are reprised in a final chapter and categorized for easier lookup. There are also special chapters on services available to caregivers, and topics relevant to specific populations of elderlies, such as military veterans and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elderlies.

The chapter on paying for care using vehicles such as long-term care insurance, reverse mortgage, and / or annuities was rather short and, in my opinion, could benefit from a more substantive discussion.

I love finding new cook books. It's always neat to see another person's spin that I wouldn't think of.I don't have picky eaters in my family but there are a lot of kids.Ms regal shows you how to make things kids enjoy. But the bonus is grownups like them too.a not be only does she give you recipes but she teaches you some good tips.You'll also learn how to make food visually appealing to the picky eater.Foods that will intrigue them to try. She has recipes not only for entrees ( like the wrap) but desserts (cupcakes) to a snack.Her banana but parfait is so good that we all likes it. Most of the recipes have items that you can substitute an ingredient like the wrap.That's why I didn't call it a specific name.All the recipes I've tried so far were likes enough that there was no leftovers.That's all you could ask for.It's so easy to cook these foods and implement her tips and tricks.I can't see any person not liking them.Truly.I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review

This book was a godsend to me, I have 3 kids who are so picky and its so hard to get them to eat the things they need to be eating. I saw this book and knew I had to read it. It has helped me come up with better,more healthy foods for them to eat,and they actually like them. No more begging them to eat healthy foods,and eat more fruits and veggies when i can just in cooperate them into the meals and desserts I make. This book doesn't just have recipes for kids,They are recipes the whole family will love. What a great informative book,packed full with great recipes.

My mom and I are always looking for new cook books let alone im the pickiest eater going. But the first few recepies actually look really good, defiantly a good buy! My mom is just glad to finally have a cook book with recepies that im willing to try. Its a good cook book even if you dont have a picky eater honestly. Also love the cuteness of the cover! Give it a try its defiantly worth it for sure!!
