About the Author
Jennifer Avery is a senior regulatory specialist with HCPro, Inc., in Danvers, Mass., and serves as a lead instructor for a number of its Certified Coder Boot Camps® and ICD-10 Basics Boot Camps®. As a member of the Revenue Cycle Institute, Avery works with hospitals, medical practices, and other healthcare providers on a wide range of coding-related issues and educational efforts. Avery served as president of the AAPC Oklahoma City chapter in 2007. She is currently a member of AHIMA's Action Community for e-HIM Excellence (ACE), and is an approved AHIMA-certified ICD-10 trainer for ICD-10-CM/PCS.
Cheryl Ericson is the clinical documentation improvement (CDI) education director for HCPro, Inc., in Danvers, Mass. A former CDI manager, she also managed utilization review and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Measures at a large academic medical center. She has an extensive background that includes adult education, and data analysis. She is also a certified InterQual instructor. Ericson is a member of the Association for Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) advisory board and has served on many ACDIS and AHIMA work groups.
